How to Do Shaving Cream Marbling
Shaving cream marbling is a super fun and easy way to create beautiful, swirling patterns on paper. It is also soooooo satisfying and mesmerizing!
It is great for basically every age but kids under 4/5 need supervision and assistance.
Here's a quick guide to get you started:
Supplies:
Shaving cream (I like using the sensitive kind to avoid unpleasant smells/skin sensitivities)
Paint such as liquid watercolors (any paint will do but you will have more success with concentrated liquid paints. You can use slightly watered down acrylic paints. In the photo examples we used pour paint)
Flat tray (a dollar store food tray is my go-to)
2nd tray to scrape your excess shaving cream into
Spatula or squeegee (a small piece of cardboard will work too)
Toothpicks or disposable fork
Heavy paper or cardstock (watercolor paper or mixed media paper works well)
Directions
Prepare the Tray: Spread a layer of shaving cream evenly across the tray.
Add Color: Drop dots of liquid watercolors onto the shaving cream.
Create Patterns: Use a toothpick/fork to swirl the colors around, creating marbled patterns.
Transfer the Design: Gently press a piece of paper onto the colored shaving cream, then lift it off.
Reveal the Marbling: Use a spatula/squeegee to scrape off the excess shaving cream, revealing your marbled design.
Let the paper dry completely, and you’ll have a unique piece of marbled art perfect for greeting cards, bookmarks, bookmaking or framing!
